Nikon D3s Revealed

Nikon D3s Revealed

There was a lot of discussions back and forth if there was going to be a new D4 with 24MP, video at 1080p… or just a small upgrade that ment a D3s with video (D3 + Video = D3s).

Well the rumor about a new D3s was correct, Nikon confirmed that along with some new lenses aswell during the latest conference here in Europe.

The specs was quite interesting:
The biggest news with the D3s was the new sensor. It has the same size and amout of pixles as the D3 but the iso sensitivity is from 200 to 12800. Besides the new sensor the D3s have three new hi-modes which will give you up to 102400 iso!. Due to this upgrade to the sensor you can jump up a notch on the iso level and still get good image quality when you compare to with the D3.
Another feature is the dust removal on the sensor, Nikon managed to give the camera a 100% viewing capability in the viewfinder which you didn’t get on the D700.

While Canon have moved forward with the videorecording feature on their DSLR:s Nikon is not far behind. With the new D3s you can record up to 720p with M-jpeg and maximum 5 minutes in the highest quality, if you want to do quick vblogs with a expensive camera ;-) .

I can edmit that I’m drooling quite much right now, but for approx 5000$ it’s painfully expensive (for me anyway and my poor wallet).

Here is a “short” list of features fetched from dpreview.com:

  • New 12.1 megapixel Full-Frame (36 x 24 mm) sensor
  • ISO 200 – 12800 (ISO 100 – 102,400 in Boost mode)
  • 720p / 24 fps HD movie mode
  • Eleven frames per second in continuous and DX mode
  • Larger buffer for 48 RAW frames in one burst (18 on the D3)
  • Multi-CAM3500FX Auto Focus sensor (51-point, 15 cross-type, more vertical coverage), fine-tuned for improved acquisition and tracking
  • In-camera RAW processing
  • Also supports DX lenses, viewfinder automatically masks (5.1 megapixels with DX lens)
  • 14-bit A/D conversion, 12 channel readout
  • Nikon EXPEED image processor
  • Super fast operation (power-up 12 ms, shutter lag 41 ms, black-out 74 ms)
  • Kevlar / carbon fibre composite shutter with 300,000 exposure durability
  • Auto-focus tracking by color (using information from 1005-pixel AE sensor)
  • Auto-focus calibration (fine-tuning) available (fixed body or up to 20 separate lens settings)
  • Scene Recognition System (uses AE sensor, AF sensor)
  • Dual Compact Flash card slots (overflow, back-up, RAW on 1 / JPEG on 2, Stills on 1 / Movies on 2, copy)
  • Compact Flash UDMA support
  • 3.0″ 922,000 pixel LCD monitor
  • Live View with either phase detect (mirror up/down) or improved (30% faster) contrast detect Auto Focus
  • Virtual horizon indicates if camera is level, available on the LCD during video capture
  • HDMI HD video output
  • ‘Active D-Lighting’ ‘Extra High’ setting (adjusts metering as well as applying D-Lighting curve)
  • Detailed ‘Control Panel’ type display on LCD monitor, changes color in darkness
  • Buttons sealed against moisture
  • Dual battery charger as standard

Rumors – Nikon D700x

Rumors – Nikon D700x

I just read from Nikon Rumors about a new rumor of the highly debated Nikon D700x/s.
The well known professional photographer Christian Fletcher wrote a new post on his blog that is quite interesting.
During his years as a photographer he has mainly been shooting with Canon gear.
I’ll quote:

“I type this from my death bed. Don’t worry no need to send get well gifts but the gallery will accept them.

I am privy to some pretty cool news for Nikon users, that cool in fact that I might have lots of Canon gear going cheap. Can’t spread the news yet but let’s just say it will be tipping the scales in nikons favour.”
“Tags: New nikon camera release, nikon d700x, nikon rumours”

The post have the Nikon D700x tag which makes everything much interesting.
Note that time will tell after all, but I hope it will be a D700x soon and not only updated lenses (which is good too, but I need a new SLR at first).

Snow Lepoard – Arrived, Installed and Tested

Snow Lepoard – Arrived, Installed and Tested

Finally Snow Lepoard arrived in the mail this morning.

I have read/heard from somewhere that this new update wasn’t so fantastic in preformance update that Apple mentioned at their lastest convention.
To find the trouth I had to install the update and see for myself.

After a 30min – 1 hour install the mac was ready for some testing. I checked the space on the harddrive and saw that it have freed some space, which was good news, but when it comes to better preformance I didn’t even see the smoke of it.
I can’t feel that Snow Lepoard speeded up the computer, not even with a lousy one percent.
The other changes was, better stacks, the rightclick menu from the different programs on the dock was changed a bit, new wallpapers etc.

Overall I’m happy that I did only pay 9.99$ for the update and not 30$, this due to a recently purchased iMac 20″ computer.
