Review-styled Q&A of the HTC Desire

Review-styled Q&A of the HTC Desire

Hey guys!
Ok, here is the deal. I’ve put up a Q&A-styled review over the HTC Desire that hopefully will answer a lot of the questions that you guys might have.

Q: Hey JP, what if I’ve got a question that is not listed on the Q&A?
A: Hey!, You simply type your question in the comment section below (actually not right below this row of text, but at the bottom of this page ;-) .

Q: This probably one of the: “You got a review unit from the company and now you can only say good things about it” – which makes this a useless review!
A
: I’m not so sure about that.

Q: What do you mean “You’re not so sure about that”?
A: Well, for the first HTC didn’t send me a review unit, second I would never ever accept a review unit where I have certain demands of what I can and can not say and third I bought the HTC Desire from my own pocket which makes this review and every word that I type here on this blog post be my own personal opinion and not someone else’s.

Q: Sorry, my bad.
A:
Np ;-)

Q: For how long have you been playing with the Desire?
A:
For the past 1-1,5 weeks.

Q: Are you happy with it?
A: You bet ya! The best phone I’ve ever used!

Q: Even better than the iPhone? – The worlds best selling phone by all time.
A: Yep!

Q: Why?
A: You see, the problem with the iPhone in my opinion is the control that Apple have over the developers and over their products.
The developers can’t upload apps that for example can compete with the current Apple apps that are available on the iPhone and this is one of the biggest reasons why I like Android OS.
With the Android OS the developers don’t have the same hard rules that Apple have with their iPhone OS.

Q: So you don’t like Apple at all?
A: No. In matter of fact I love Apple and their products (heck I’ve would even go and buy the iPad if I had the money), but some times I wish they could just let go of the leash a bit and give the developers more breathing room.

Q: How is the Spec’s on the HTC Desire?
A: If you head over to HTC’s site you can find it there, but I can save you some time if you just use this URL link instead HTC Desire – Specifications. ;)

Q: Eeehhh… Doesn’t the phone support 720p recording?!?
A: Nope.

Q: That sux!
A: That’s not a question, but yeah it sucks.

Q: Sooo?… You bought a phone that doesn’t support 720p, why?
A: Yep, I did. But here is the thing. The camera that’s inside the Desire are capable to record at 720p it’s just HTC who haven’t turned that feature on yet and what I’ve heard that feature will be turned on in a later update.

Q: How large is the phone compared to the iPhone?
A: It’s not such a big difference between the HTC Desire and the iPhone. The Desire is just slightly taller (about 1-3mm taller)

Q: Do the phone support apps?
A: Heck yeah :-D – It’s Android Dude! and it has it’s own app store called “Android Market”. It’s not as centralised as Apple’s App Store. What I mean with centralised is that you can get hold of Android apps from various places like: Appbrain.com, Androlib.com, Android.com/market, etc.

Q: Which apps do you recommend?
A: Dude – I’ve been waiting for someone to ask me that question. Ok, I’ll put up a bunch of apps that I really like and they are in no particular order:
* Barcode Scanner
* Google Sky Map
* Google Maps
* Google Earth
* Photoshop Mobile
* WordPress
* Twit.tv
* Fring
* Twidroid
* Facebook
* Netcounter
* FxCamera and many more ;-)

Q: What is your opinion on the Android OS?
A: First of all I really like the Android OS, it’s fast, great apps, great functionality such as the multi-touch capability, Google continuously pushing out new versions of the Android OS (well if you have a HTC you have to wait for a short while since HTC have to “convert” to their HTC Sense system). Second this is my first Android phone so I’m just comparing v2.1 (which is the latest OS release) to what I’ve seen and heard with older versions  ;-)

Q: Ok, now what’s the price on the phone?
A: Since I live in Sweden the currency are a bit different to the US dollar. Ok here it goes: SEK: 4739 kr and in USD: approx 479$

Q: Wow that’s a good price consider it that you get a awesome 3.7″ capacitive screen, lots of RAM and ROM and of course the 1GHz Snapdragon CPU.
A: Yep, I agree with you :-D

That’s it guys! I hope this answered a lot of questions.

;-)
