No Nikon D700 replacement in 2010?

Went over to Nikonrumors.com recently and saw a post which made me not so happy. The topic read: “No Nikon D700 replacement in 2010? I don’t think so”. It has almost been 2 years now since Nikon released the D700 on the market and as we all know technology have the habit to develop in the speed of light (or almost at the speed of light ) but in Nikons case it sees like they’ve hit the breaks.
Canon keeps pushing new DSLR houses to the market and almost everyone have support for at least 720p video recording. Ok, you might think “How on the earth would I need video recording when I’m specifically buying a DSLR to shoot pictures and not video, I could just buy a regular HD camcorder if I wanted to shoot video”. But here is the deal with video recording on DSLR:s, recently I put up a post talking about a company called Zacuto who recently did the first webisode out of three about the question “Is Digital Equally Good as Film?“. They compared Nikon 3Ds, Canon DSLR:s and film cameras and frankly the DSLR:s video quality isn’t far away from film.
So when I buy a DSLR with video capability I rather see it as a bonus feature that will come handy a beautiful day.

Anyway back to the topic, this source who mentioned this to nikonrumors is a person who works very closely with nikon and the staff at nikonrumors have heard similar rumors before – maybe it’s true – maybe not. One thing is for sure that the time will tell and that is probably the best reliable source ever!

Everyone is talking about it, everyone is posting videos on YouTube about it and everyone outside the US border will have to wait before they can lay their hands on it (well, not if you travel to the US and buy one of course ).

Am I gonna buy a iPad?: Yes, No, Maybe, I don’t know…, ehmmm… If I buy one the main reasons will be: Awesome ebook reader (Imagine reading comics on that display =D), A larger touch area which I really like (using apps like Brushes, Sketch etc) and it will be very handy during any sorts of traveling.
The reasons why I don’t want to buy it is: It’s expensive, 499$ for the 16GB version and I think when you have that peace of hardware in your hand you will need at least 32GB space, which will cost you 599$ and for the 64GB version 699$.

Ok, that was only the WiFi version. If you are traveling a lot or are often in areas with no WiFi coverage you will need the iPad WiFi+3G version. To get the 3G you need to pay approx 120$ more for the (16GB, 32GB and 64GB) versions. 120$!!! That is insane!. I read for a while back ago that it only cost about 20-30$ for the 3G module and you’ve to pay 120$, that is not fair.
So you pay 120$ extra for the 3G, then you have to be aware of that you need a data plan from your 3G service provider before you can use the 3G network.

Now to the more fun part of this post. iFixit got hold of a iPad and they did what they are best on doing… Take apart Apple products . Just click on the blueish iFixit link above and you will get strait to the action.

Is Digital Equally Good as Film?

Is digital equally good as film?
That question have I said to myself for a long time now without getting a proper answer… Until today!

The company Zacuto wanted an answer as well and took matters in their own hands. They called up some people, got together at the Skywalker ranch, did a large scale tests and shared to us (to the people around the world).
They’ve released the first Webisode out of three and the first one is approx 35 min long. Ok, you would probably say: “The quality will be compressed because it’s over the Internet and so on”. Yeah that’s true but the video is still in a very good resolution and you WILL definitely see the difference between digital an film.
When I saw the video I was convinced that digital had a long way to go before it would be in the same range as film, but man I was wrong. The digital evolution have evolved on a very fast phase, it wasn’t a very long time ago since we were only shooting with film.

The Great Camera Shootout 2010 is the name of the Webisode. Watch it, watch it again and you will be very impressed (I am anyway!).

Photoshop World 2010

Dude, I wish I had the money to take a plane over to Orlando – Florida and just fill my head with new material from all the awesome speakers (Joe McNally, Scott Kelby, John Paul Caponigro, Dave Cross, Rafael (RC) Concepcion, Matt Kloskowski, Bert Monroy, Moose Peterson, Jack Reznicki, Vincent Versace and many, many more).
